LaunchKit is the result of a year’s hard work by Ange Smith (Melbourne-based marketing + business strategist) and Ruby Lohman (Sydney-based content strategist + copywriter) of Biz Launch Lab – buddies and biz partners who get really excited about helping people launch thriving businesses and walk their own paths.
Introvert, meet introvert
Our own launch story started back in 2017 at a networking event. (Hilarious since we’re both massive introverts.) Ange bravely went over to say hi to Ruby who was quietly sitting alone instead of trying to ‘mingle’. Ange complimented Ruby on her pants and the rest is history.
We’re friends first, business partners second. And we’re passionate about helping people launch great businesses. We think life’s too short to work for someone else (unless that’s your thing).
In early 2018, we had an idea and a conversation. “We should make an all-in-one kit that gives people everything they need to start a business!” We assumed it would go the way most ideas go – straight to the idea graveyard. Except that we couldn’t let it go.
The idea bubbled and fizzed and we thought, let’s just do it and see what happens. And now here we are.
And we’re SO excited to be bringing this to you.
RUBY LOHMAN has been playing with words professionally for over a decade – as a copywriter, content strategist, journalist, editor and proofreader.
She’s got a degree in journalism and a coaching qualification, a passion for brand-building, an entrepreneurial spirit and a bit of an eye for design. She’s worked with some of the world’s biggest brands – and plenty of smaller ones too.
Needing variety like air and water, she has experience working with clients across industries as diverse as education, technology, health and wellbeing, travel, food and wine, transport, finance and legal.
Ruby is passionate about helping people create businesses that let them lead bold lives filled with freedom and choice. She’s a fan of the road less travelled.
She loves helping people overcome the fear + uncertainty that gets them stuck - a fear that often arises when you have to market your biz and put yourself out there.
Having lived in two countries and three Australian states, she’s now based in sunny Sydney. (And doesn’t tire of sending weather app screenshots to Ange in Melbourne.) She also runs a series of events called Death Dinner Party to help spark important conversations about life and death. She’s a wine and food snob but will never say no to some salt and vinegar chips.
ANGE SMITH is an experienced marketing and business strategist who believes in the power of basic marketing principles and gets a bit ranty when people overcomplicate things or promise one-size-fits-all solutions.
She’s all about helping budding biz owners and solopreneurs cut through the crap, beat off the confusion and find blissful clarity.
She’s worked in senior marketing roles across different sectors and launched several of her own businesses. She also has a Master of Marketing from Melbourne Business School (some serious academic creds!).
Ange has seen so many businesses invest big bucks in marketing and advertising but get nowhere – because it hasn’t been based on a solid strategy. That’s why she’s so passionate about bringing things back to basics and getting things right from the ground up.
She lives by the beach in Melbourne, has a brood of beloved nieces and nephews, and loves a French rosé as dry as her sense of humour.
